The history of Oklahoma Lake

Excavation of Oklahoma Lake began in 1987 as a sand mine in the Canadian River valley in north east Oklahoma City. The mining operation was completed early in 2007. The lake was flooded in August 2007 and sat vacant until 2009.  New managers started late 2009 on making improvements to the lake, roads, camping and picnic area, boat ramps, and the beach.
